The MSI Raider GE76 reviewed here is packed with an Intel Core i9-12900HK, 32GB of RAM and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. So, in essence, it’s a behemoth of a gaming laptop.

This thing absolutely tore through our benchmark suite, blowing away every other laptop we’ve reviewed, and even came within reaching distance of some of the most powerful gaming desktops we’ve reviewed. The Core i9-12900HK is just 48% slower than the desktop version of the Core i9-12900K. That sounds like a huge difference, but we’re talking about a desktop chip with a PL1 (power level 1) that’s 2.7x higher than the 12900HK. Intel knocked the scaling out of the park, basically.

But it’s not just the CPU that’s impressive. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is capable of some blisteringly fast speeds, too. In Metro Exodus with Ultra settings, this laptop was 41% faster than the Razer Blade 15 with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080, and was only 19% slower than the Alienware Aurora R13 – a desktop with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090. This is truly desktop-level gaming performance.

Even in Guardians of the Galaxy, with the graphics absolutely maxed out – including ray tracing – we’re constantly seeing framerates hovering around 120 fps. And that’s without any form of DLSS or FSR running. This laptop is that powerful.

There isn’t a game out there, especially with a 1080p or 1440p panel, for which you won’t be able to just crank the graphics preset up to maximum and let it ride. Yes, this is an expensive laptop, but if you want no-compromises gaming performance, and you don’t mind dropping a small fortune on a gaming laptop, the MSI Raider GE76 is the device for you.

The MSI GE76 Raider, packed with an Intel Core i7-10870H and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080, is an absolute powerhouse of a gaming laptop. No matter what game you throw at this thing, you’re going to be able to max it out at a high framerate – especially if you’re sticking to the 1080p display that’s built in.

We’re able to get Metro Exodus running at 80 fps on Ultra settings, which means there’s more than enough headroom there to enable ray tracing in that game, without turning it into a slideshow.

We’re playing a lot of Final Fantasy XII these days, and this laptop basically sleeps through that game, easily delivering a high refresh rate without having to work especially hard.

The MSI GE76 Raider would also work exceptionally well as a mobile workstation, thanks to the huge amount of RAM and the exceptional CPU performance on offer. The laptop scores a whopping 9,500 points in Cinebench R23, which makes it one of the fastest laptops we’ve tested to date.

You should be able to get extremely solid video editing performance out of it, too, thanks to the mobile RTX 3080, and the fact that you can enable CUDA rendering in Premiere, and use the NVENC encoder when you’re exporting the video.

Мы уже говорили, что MSI GE75 Raider 8SG — игровой ноутбук. Как же он показывает себя в играх? Как и положено системе с i7-8750H и RTX 2080 на борту.

При максимальных настройках графики в Assassin’s Сreed: Odyssey значение FPS стабильно держится выше 60 кадров в секунду. А в менее требовательных играх вроде Dota 2 FPS улетает за сотню и ниже не опускается.

В общем, благодаря RTX 2080 на борту, можно без раздумий и сомнений выкручивать все настройки на максимум и наслаждаться плавным геймплеем, но в более доступных моделях линейки GE75 для достижения оптимальных результатов придется поиграть с настройками вручную или оптимизировать производительность через GeForce Experience.

Экран ноутбука

В большинстве игр ноутбук редко выдаёт 360 fps, даже на низких настройках графики в Rainbow Six Siege у вас будет не больше 270 fps. И это, несмотря на топовый процессор Intel Core i9 серии HK и видеокарту Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080. Нет здесь и поддержки технологии Nvidia G-Sync для устранения разрывов.

Ещё сильнее разочаровывает качество изображения, потому что дисплей у GE76 Raider заметно тусклый. Пиковая яркость составляет всего около 175 нит. Цветовое покрытие тоже не самое широкое: 95% для пространства RGB и 71% – Adobe RGB. Единственное преимущество дисплея — это хорошее антибликовое покрытие.

Фишка дизайна этих моделей новейшей линейки — автор Маартен Верховен, который в ответе за уйму концептов и дизайнов, включая “Мстителей”, “Властелина Колец”, “Ходячих Мертвецов” и не только.

Так что не удивляйтесь повышенной агрессии в языке дизайна этой модели. И крышка, и панель вокруг клавиатуры, и даже тачпад, сделаны в сай-фай стиле под геймерскую душу. Универсальности тут нет, но есть подсветка и стиль MSI.

Some Good Qualities, But Ultimately a Pass

The MSI GE76 Raider isn’t the ultimate 17.3-inch esports laptop it sets out to be. Its admirable qualities—quiet cooling fans, a fast PCI Express Gen 4 SSD, good connectivity, decent speakers, and a sharp 1080p webcam—are outweighed by larger issues.

Our review unit’s Core i9 HK-series CPU and GeForce RTX 3080 didn’t perform as well as expected in our esports testing, which is hard to accept given this laptop’s size. Its dim screen is perhaps the biggest letdown. The Asus ROG Zephyrus S17 and Alienware x17 are both better 17.3-inch options, and the 16-inch Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 6 can outrun them both.

MSI’s flagship jumbo-screened gaming laptop, the GE76 Raider, packs top-shelf hardware in its latest revision, anchored by Intel’s best 11th Gen Core mobile chip. But it doesn’t perform as well as it should.

Design

One look at the MSI Raider GE76 and there’s no mistaking that it is a gaming laptop. There are plenty of sharp angles, a gunmetal-gray lid, and more ports than you can shake a stick at. Oh, and there’s the giant RGB light bar on the front of the keyboard deck that we can’t figure out how to turn off.

The laptop looks like a tank, and it’s kind of built like one too. The entire chassis is made from metal, from the lid to the bottom of the laptop where all the ventilation is found. The MSI Raider GE76 is definitely a laptop that can withstand a beating, although that does mean it’s quite heavy.

The laptop is about an inch thick and weighs 6.9lb, which means it’s definitely noticeable when it’s in your bag. To add to the weight, you’ll need to carry the charger around with you, which is also quite heavy and bulky. So while this is definitely more portable than a gaming tower, it’s still not something you’re going to want to carry with you as you commute to work every day – unless you really want a workout.

But thanks to the size of this laptop you do get a full keyboard with a numpad. There are some compromises to fit it in this chassis, with the buttons on the numpad being quite narrow. It takes some getting used to, especially if you don’t want to accidentally hit the right arrow key when you’re going for the 0 key, but that’s something that will come with time.

The keyboard is also quite comfortable to type on, with plenty of travel. They’re still chiclet keys, but they feel much more substantial than on most laptops. However, we do notice that sometimes the spacebar will repeat, and we’ll have to hit backspace a few times to get back to where we were. It’s a small issue, but something that does get annoying after a while.

Perhaps more impressive, though, is that even with that full-sized keyboard, MSI was able to fit top-firing speakers. They sound incredible for a laptop, and listening to Tear You Apart by She Wants Revenge we could clearly hear the bass guitar, even when all the other instrumentation (and even the vocals) are bassy themselves. As for games, Guardians of the Galaxy sounds more clear than on many gaming laptops, and loud enough to render the fans inaudible.

The display, meanwhile, looks incredible. While it is just a 1080p panel, the colors here are bright and accurate. Everything looks absolutely vibrant, whether you’re blasting aliens in Guardians of the Galaxy or digging around the colorful new menus in Windows 11, and you don’t have to worry about compromising on image quality just to get that 360Hz refresh rate.

And of course, because this is a thick gaming laptop in 2022, there are plenty of ports on offer. You get two USB-C ports, one of which is Thunderbolt 4, three USB-A, an Audio Combo jack, a dedicated charger, HDMI, Mini-DisplayPort, and an SD card reader. Basically, you don’t have to worry about a dongle further weighing you down here; MSI has all of its bases covered.

На данный момент сложно найти пару производительнее, а с быстрыми SSD и памятью DDR4-3200 эта модель становится одной из самых мощных среди ноутбуков.

С другой стороны, у нас нет возможности зарядить даже выключенное оборудование в экстренной ситуации с помощью такого зарядного устройства.

По бокам мы также находим перфорацию для звука встроенных стереодинамиков и еще два выходных отверстия для системы охлаждения.

Заключение

Этот тезис уже звучал выше несколько раз, но я повторю его еще раз. MSI Raider GE76 12U — на сегодняшний день эта напичканная актуальными технологиями модель ноутбука, который легко прослужит еще несколько лет и будет выдавать актуальную картинку игр следующего поколения. У него есть все, чтобы через несколько вы не пошли в магазин с желанием сделать апгрейд и перейти на что-то новое.

Да, игровые ноутбуки это всегда компромисс технологий, денег и возможностей, но я прекрасно понимаю, что с “райдером” я могу как запускать что-то из бэклога, так и рассчитывать на отличную графику в условной Hogwarts Legacy, Alan Wake 2 или The Callisto Protocol. Да и с сетевыми шутерами с таким экраном проблем не будет — это не сделает меня кибератлетом, но результаты точно станут лучше.
