С клавиатурой история очень хорошо знакома. По ощущениям, это довольно привычные для линейки Zephyrus переключатели. Нажатия по прежнему сравнительно тихие, в меру жесткие, а расположение клавиш отличное. Разве что блок навигационных кнопок маловат. Но все остальное получилось хорошо и лично мне клавиатура очень нравится и полностью устраивает как для игр, так и для набора текста. О любителях RGB-подсветки в этой модели не забыли.
И с таким трекпадом мы тоже уже не раз встречались. Он, как видно, узковат, и к его позиции нужно немного привыкнуть, но со своими задачами он тоже справляется. Уверен, большинство покупателей таких ноутбуков будут пользоваться мышкой, но для работы в «полевых условиях», например, кафе, внешний манипулятор не понадобится. Да и этот трекпад тоже можно переключить в режим NUM-блока, если такой необходим (физические кнопки он не заменит, но все же лучше, чем ничего).
Пусть у ROG Zephyrus Duo и нет логотипа Harman/Kardon, который встречается на других ноутбуках производителя, звучание динамиков у него достойное. Им хватает громкости, чтобы конкурировать с системой охлаждения под нагрузкой, и у них достаточно хорошее качество воспроизведения, чтобы пользователь мог послушать музыку. Но для геймеров все еще есть как разъем для наушников, так и отдельно для микрофона.
Веб-камеры в актуальных моделях Zephyrus встречаются не часто, и в ROG Zephyrus Duo ее тоже нет. В нынешних условиях она не помешает для рабочих переговоров, поэтому придется искать внешнее решение (смартфон, отдельную камеру или что-то еще). Микрофоны остались на месте (под экраном), но они слишком чувствительны и либо потребуют тонкой настройки, либо лучше будет воспользоваться гарнитурой, что для игроков явно не будет проблемой.
Конечно, в устройстве с таким ценником хотелось бы видеть какой-то из вариантов быстрой аутентификации
Не важно, будь то ИК-датчики для распознавания лица или сканер отпечатков пальцев. Почему-то игровые ноутбуки такими вещами не часто снабжают и топовый Zephyrus, увы, тоже их пока не дождался.
Audio on Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE GX551

While the SE version of the Duo doesn’t go overboard with new features, Asus has complimented the pair of speakers in the original with a couple “Smart Amp woofers” that Asus says allows for immersive Dolby Atmos surround sound.
Now, any claim of true surround sound coming from four speakers in a laptop is dubious at best. But I can say that there’s some noticeable low-end thump here. When listening to the opener, “Purge,” from Frontline Assembly’s latest album Mechanical Soul, there was a visceral weight to the opening bassline with the laptop at max volume, even before the beat kicked in. And Bill Leeb’s distorted, pitch-shifted vocals sounded as menacing as ever.
That said, while there wasn’t any distortion with the volume all the way up, I often found myself wishing for more volume. What’s here is fine for gaming and video at moderate volumes, but if you really want powerful sound you’ll have to plug in headphones or pair a good Bluetooth speaker.
Unboxing
As the flagship of ROG’s 2021 lineup, the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE comes in an absolutely huge box, with an excessive amount of included accessories and items.
As customary for ASUS recently, the charger and laptop come in separate boxes. But the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE gets extra treatment with a bundled ROG Delta headphone and the ROG Ranger BP2701 backpack to let you carry it around in style, when you can finally go out of your home. We won’t be testing the headphone, as we have already discussed the ROG Delta here.
The charger’s packaging houses two chargers, one offering up to 100W over USB-PD for easier portability, and the other delivering the full 280W necessary for the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE to fully stretch its legs. There’s also a ROG Chakram Core along with its accessories. The ROG Chakram Core appears to replace the ROG Gladius II that ROG used to bundle with their higher-end gaming laptops. So yeah, when you get the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE, you will get both a gaming mouse and a great pair of gaming headphones, so you don’t need to go out and buy them separately anymore.
Aside from protecting the contents within, the charger box also serves as a laptop stand to raise the laptop up for a more ergonomic user experience. Pretty interesting design decision from ASUS here. Probably because there’s no ErgoLift here, so ASUS decided that this was the best way to provide a comfortable tilt for the laptop?
ASUS is still bundling Dying Light 2, so it is featured on the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE’s box. Dying Light 2 is supposed to support the ScreenPad Plus for an optimized dual-screen gaming experience, but its launch has been delayed for a long time now. The packaging itself sports a nice contrasting diagonal slash that you will have to lift up to reveal the laptop. ROG made sure to put a little plastic tab so you know where to pull when you are done appreciating the design of the packaging.
The box opens up and reveals the laptop, before lifting it up at an angle to showcase it. The laptop itself is protected in a plastic wrapper, which is quite disappointing as a reusable fabric sleeve would have been nice to protect the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE when you want to carry it around.
And here are the contents of the package. There’s your usual documentation in a nice paper envelope that sports a heavy dose of ROG Cybertext, as well as the laptop itself and its accompanying palm rest. There’s a redeemable code for Dying Light 2, so you can claim it, when the game finally launches.

Это значение говорит, что ноутбук ориентирован не только на геймеров. Чаще всего у клавиатур игровых лэптопов глубина нажатия более высокая.
В плане расположения кнопок клавиатура почти не отличается от других ноутбуков. Главное изменение — чуть уменьшены Shift и стрелки. Причина тому — тачпад располагается не снизу от клавиатуры, а с правой стороны, это единственный способ уместить их.
Отличие тачпада на этом ноутбуке от большинства других — кнопки расположены не на нем, а под ним. Первое время непривычно управлять стрелкой на одной области, а применять «левую и правую кнопки мыши» на другой. Нужно привыкнуть.
Видеокарта и игры
Чтобы узнать игровые возможности RTX 2080, я запустил 3DMark Fire Strike. Не удивительно, что ROG Zephyrus S GX701 с лёгкостью обошёл Alienware 17 R5 с Nvidia GTX 1080. Игровой ноутбук от Asus также продемонстрировал увеличение производительности на 19% по сравнению с прошлогодним 15-дюймовым Zephyrus и его Nvidia GTX 1080 Max-Q.
Впрочем, это тесты, в играх ситуация может быть иной. Но нет — Asus ROG Zephyrus S GX701 впечатляет и тут. Я протестировал большинство популярных игр, Battlefield I до Battlefield V, Fortnite, Civilization VI, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided и Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. В каждой из них ноутбук оказался на высоте. Даже в Battlefield и Fortnite частота кадров была около 100 fps, а в Civilization VI – около 95 fps.
Производительность в более требовательных названиях оказалась не менее высокой. В Deus Ex: Mankind Divided я получил более 60 fps, причём на ультравысоких настройках. Единственная игра, которая заставила Zephyrus S напрячься — Assassin’s Creed, где на ультра, частота кадров была всего лишь 48 fps, но с высокими уже превысила 60 fps.
Чтобы увидеть, как ноутбук справляется с более высоким разрешением, я подключил внешний 4K монитор. Тут RTX 2080 продемонстрировал все свои возможности. Мой Asus Zephyrus S в Battlefield 1 сравнялся с Predator Helios 500, показывая 85 fps при 1440р на ультравысоких настройках графики.
В 4K разрешении можно было также играть с удовольствием, но, чтобы получить более 60 fps, пришлось уменьшить детализацию.

С помощью программы Armoury Crate и функциональной кнопки на клавиатуре мы можем выбирать различные режимы работы ноутбука. При работе от аккумулятора по умолчанию включен «Тихий» режим, а при работе от сети — «Турбо». Существует также промежуточный режим, называемый «Производительность». Последние два тестируются, и результаты приводятся в таблице.

Нагрев корпуса ноутбука (игры, номинальный режим работы)
В играх ноутбук работает довольно громко — я пользовался гарнитурой при игре. Но этот режим позволяет эффективно охлаждать как процессор, так и графику. Максимальная теплота чипа GeForce RTX 3070 составила всего 77 градусов по Цельсию, и мы видим, что графический процессор работает в пределах заявленных показателей энергопотребления — среднее значение составило 96 Вт.
Переход из режима «Турбо» в режим «Производительность» значительно снизил частоту работы видеоядра, но в то же время среднее энергопотребление несколько снизилось. С тех пор как Zephyrus стал тише, производительность нагрева основных компонентов ПК практически не изменилась.
Обращаю ваше внимание на то, что герой обзора поддерживает технологию Dynamic Boost 2.0. Это означает, что энергопотребление процессора и графического процессора может постоянно меняться, адаптируясь к условиям, обеспечивающим максимальный FPS в той или иной игре
Как уже упоминалось, нагретый воздух частично выдувается непосредственно на дисплей ноутбука. Это хорошо видно на изображении тепловизора, но в целом область с клавишами не очень горячая — стандартная, я бы сказал.
Подводя итог: система охлаждения ROG Zephyrus G15 хорошо справляется со своей работой в играх, даже если она делает это с высоким уровнем шума.
Интересно, что в тестах процессоров среднее энергопотребление Ryzen 7 5800HS составляет 54 Вт в режиме «Turbo» и 47 Вт в режиме «Performance». Мы видим, что использование жидкого металла позволяет выжать гораздо больше из 8-ядерного AMD, ведь номинальное значение TDP для этого чипа составляет 35 Вт.

Автономность ROG Zephyrus Duo
Посмотрев на комплектацию ноутбука и учитывая наличие второго экрана, я не ожидал, что он будет долго работать от батареи. Она, кстати, получилась емкой — 90 Вт•ч. И вот с обоими экранами в тесте PCMark 10 в результате получилось почти 5,5 часов. Это, на мой взгляд, очень хороший результат для такой категории в целом. Во время обычной работы от зарядки до зарядки были промежутки в +/- 4 часа, если не отказывать себе в громкости фоновой музыки или яркости подсветки, а двухчасовой фильм обошелся батарее в 31%.
Блок питания понадобится для игр в любом случае. Полностью зарядить им ноутбук можно за два часа. Вместе с этим, если нужно просто поработать с нетребовательными задачами, у ROG Zephyrus Duo есть возможность заряжаться через USB Type-C, но, естественно, мощность такой зарядки ниже, чем у комплектного блока. Таким образом, на работе, если там не нужна вся доступная производительность лептопа, можно использовать небольшой БП с USB-С, чтобы не носить с собой более крупную комплектную зарядку.

Вывод:
ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 — производительный игровой ноутбук с двумя встроенными экранами, один из которых находится на топкейсе и оснащается подъемным механизмом. Последний отчасти исправил недостатки работы с двумя экранами в ноутбуках, чего не хватало в линейке Zenbook Duo. Но, к сожалению, не обошлось и без минусов, под высокой нагрузкой корпус модели ощутимо нагревается, а в играх оказалось немного меньше FPS, чем можно ожидать от такой конфигурации (хотя комфортно играть это все равно не мешало). Но в целом ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 оказался одним из самых необычных и функциональных ноутбуков, которые побывали у нас в редакции. Формат у этой модели действительно уникальный, и радует, что второй экран, пусть и с особенностями, является не только имиджевым решением. Но этого нельзя сказать о цене, которая установлена в украинской рознице на уровне 100 тыс грн. Остается надеятся, что «обкатка» технологии на топовых моделях позволит ASUS выпустить более доступные ноутбуки с двумя экранами.
Hardware and performance
I mentioned already we can’t talk performance or benchmarks at this point, based on this early sample.
I can tell you that for now, the 2021 Zephyrus Duo is built on AMD processors and Nvidia RTX 3000 graphics, with a Rzyen 9 5900H 8C/16T processor and a RTX 3080 GPU with 16 GB of video RAM at the highest tier. These are paired with up to 48 GB of DDR4 3200 MHz memory (16 GB on-board + 1 DIMM) and dual m.2 SSD storage.
Of course, Asus will offer the multitude of Power profiles and customization options we’ve been used with in the Armoury Crate control software, boosting both the CPU and the GPU at the highest-end. The official literature also mentions a couple of interesting aspects, such as the fact that liquid-metal is applied on the AMD processor with this generation, which was not an easy task given AMD’s more complex die design with extra SMB capacitors, or the fact that Asus worked on improving the CPU/GPU VRMs quality and number in order to consistently supply the components with the right amount of power in sustained loads.
As far as performance goes, Asus mentions that:
- the CPU can Boost at up to 90W on its own and run at up to 50W of sustained power when the dGPU is also active;
- the GPU runs at 1645 MHz and 115W on the Turbo profiles with ROG Boost enabled, and can jump up to 130 W of power from Dynamic Boost in certain games and loads, which shifts up to 15W of power from the CPU to the GPU.
As a side note, the MUX switch that used to allow for Optimus/GSyncs modes on the 2020 model has been replaced with the Active Sync technology now. In theory, that offers the best of both worlds and allows the system to seamlessly commute between the iGPU and dGPU, with an impact on battery life with daily use and while still hooking the screen directly into the dGPU with games, reducing lag and tearing.
The thermal design is going to play a significant role in this sort of high-power compact notebook as well. Previously, the Duo had to cope with the power-hungry i9-10980HK processor and struggled with in some cases, and I’d expect that to improve with the more efficient Ryzen 5000 platform. I’d also expect a noticeable gain in both single and multi-core performance.
Furthermore, Asus’s marketing materials mention reduced fan-noise for the 2021 ROG models, with a slight fan redesign (arc flow fans) meant to boost airflow while reducing turbulence and resonance/noise. Furthermore, 0db Technology is also a novelty for this year, allowing to completely switch both fans with light loads in the Silent mode, as long as the CPU/GPU stay below certain temperatures (to be clarified).

The battery is still 90W and hasn’t changed from the previous generation. However, the 2021 Duo comes with a slightly larger and higher capacity 280 W power-brick now. It also supports USB-C charging at up to 100W, an option to consider for daily-work if you’d rather leave the main charger at home.
Component Check: AMD and Nvidia Bring Their Latest
With the minor aesthetic and feature changes out of the way, we can get to the internals. This laptop’s core components are the stars of the show, upgraded on both the CPU and GPU side thanks to AMD and Nvidia respectively. We first tested a Ryzen 5000 series processor in the Asus ROG Flow X13 and it lived up to high expectations, so I was eager to see how one would perform in a larger 15.6-inch laptop. It’s also intriguing to get another look at Nvidia’s RTX 30 series laptop GPUs, which arrived to great anticipation after the success of their desktop counterparts but have proven something of a mixed bag in our tests so far.
The main display comes in two resolution and refresh-rate combinations: full HD (1080p) with a 300Hz refresh rate, and 4K UHD with a 120Hz refresh rate. The ScreenPad Plus is now available in full HD and UHD as well. Previously, the secondary display was only available in UHD (technically 3,840 by 1,100 pixels given its unusual dimensions), but the lower-res option effectively gives the system a lower starting price.
You can’t pick and choose screens in any combination—there are three models of the Zephyrus Duo, and the screens are tied to other components. The $2,199.99 base model combines a Ryzen 7 5800H processor, 16GB of memory, a 1TB solid-state drive, a GeForce RTX 3060 GPU, and the full HD versions of both the main display and ScreenPad Plus. This is a significant savings over the original GX550, which started at $2,999.99. The middle model comes in at $2,899.99, pairing the same displays with a Ryzen 9 5900HX chip, 32GB of RAM, and RTX 3070 graphics.
Our review unit is the top-of-the-line version, an eye-watering $3,699.99 with the UHD 120Hz display, UHD ScreenPad Plus, Ryzen 9 5900HX processor, 32GB of memory, 2TB of SSD storage, and GeForce RTX 3080 GPU. Personally, I don’t think the huge price jump for the dual 4K screens and RTX 3080 are worth it (more on that in the performance section), but if your budget knows no bounds, this may be the all-out config for you. At least with this screen, you aren’t giving up a high refresh rate for higher resolution as with many 4K displays of the past, even if gaming at 4K is still challenging even for top-end components.
Software and Warranty on Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE GX551
Asus doesn’t ship the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE GX551 with an overtly annoying amount of pre-installed software, but it’s not quite free of bloat, either. There’s the company’s Armoury Crate suite for controlling lights, settings and corralling your gaming library (which itself has some ads built in), as well as MyAsus for diagnosis, support, and software updates (and “AppDeals”).
Also on board is McAfee Personal Security (which tries to sell you virus protection), and what feels like an extra helping of Windows 10 bloat. The Start menu comes loaded with links to Spotify, Hulu, Netflix, and Hidden City: Hidden Object Adventure. Expect to spend at least a little time uninstalling gunk and cleaning up your Start menu if you like to keep things clean.

Keyboard and Touchpad on Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE GX551

As is the norm with dual-screen laptops in recent years, the addition of the second display above the screen means the touchpad gets shoved to the side of the keyboard and the keys get moved down so that there’s no area below them to rest your wrists.
Asus attempts to lessen this pain point by including a solid rubber wrist rest in the box. That’s better than nothing, but given its fairly substantial heft (and the fact that its rough rubber surface attracts dirt and dust like magic), you’re probably not going to take it with you on the go.
And while the keys look good with their RGB backlighting that flashes red when the system boots up, they don’t feel great. The 1.4mm of travel is about what I’d expect in a gaming laptop this thin, but strokes feel more rubbery than I’d like at this price, and the arrow and function keys are tiny.
Directly to the right of those arrow keys sits the 2.3 x 2.9-inch touchpad. Just like with the previous Duo laptops, it’s accurate and gets the job done, but it’s narrow and not where it belongs. That said, given this is a gaming laptop, you’re almost certainly going to be using a dedicated mouse most of the time anyway, so I found the touchpad here a bit less awkward than on some other dual-screen portables. And at least long-pressing on an icon in the upper-left corner lets you turn the touchpad into a number pad for faster data input.
In short, as with all other dual-screen laptops we’ve tested, you trade anything approaching ‘good’ peripherals for the sake of the second screen here. On most other gaming laptops in this price range (or even significantly less) you could get mechanical switches and a roomier touchpad that sits below the keys where it belongs. If good, comfortable peripherals are important to you, you should weigh that against how handy you think a second screen will be.

Conclusion
The ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE builds upon its predecessor in a pretty big way. The display has been upgraded to a 4K 120Hz panel, which provides the sharpness I expect of a flagship-class content creator laptop in 2021, without sacrificing on the fluidity that I want on a gaming laptop. The display is without a doubt the perfect balance between the two worlds. To support the more demanding display, the CPU and GPU under the hood is also significantly beefier, and yet the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE still deliver better battery life than its predecessor. But these are not the only impressive things about the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE.
The ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE is priced at the exact same price as its predecessor, at RM19 999. When you consider all the hardware on offer on top what the ScreenPad Plus can bring to the table as a secondary display, it becomes quite reasonable. If you don’t need a secondary display, you might want to look at other machines, but trust me, once you experience the convenience of working with two screens in a laptop, you can’t go back. I wrote this article on the ASUS ZenBook Duo 14, so yeah.
The main drawback of going with the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE might be its weight of 2.48kg which is heavier than what I would like to carry around with me on my work trips. With that said, if you want the level of performance that this baby here can deliver, you will be hard-pressed to find a lighter machine. Also, it will most probably not come with a secondary display.
Not to mention that you will be getting desktop-class performance with this laptop, which makes the 2.48kg weight seem relatively lightweight. ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE GX551 приятно удивил. Это необычный и одновременно универсальный ноутбук. Как правило, уникальные технологии делают устройства узконаправленными. ZenBook Duo и ZenBook Flip понравятся далеко не многим. Эта же модель подходит и для геймеров, и для профессионалов.
Обработка звука, фото, видео и даже простой набор текста — на Zephyrus Duo 15 SE GX551 решать эти задачи удобнее, чем на большинстве других игровых ноутбуков. Что касается стримеров, то для них это чуть ли не самый удобный ноутбук.
Единственное, что не позволит ему стать массовым, — это цена. Устройство стоит 289 000 рублей. Впрочем, геймеры и профессионалы — это люди, привыкшие платить за качественные устройства. Если использовать Zephyrus Duo 15 SE GX551 точечно, затраты он точно окупит.
